Psalm 18:2

Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Rock- a firm support, something unmovable.

           Isa. 28:16 a tried stone, a sure foundation

           1 Tim. 6:19 a good foundation against the future

Fortress- stronghold, place of security.

           Nahum 1:7 stronghold in the day of trouble

           Psa. 34:7 surrounds and delivers us

Deliverer- one who frees from restraint, evil, danger, etc.

          1 Cor. 10:13 delivers from temptation

          2 Pet. 2:9 the Lord knows how to deliver us

God- whatever we put first in our life.

         Ex. 20:3 He should be first place in lives

         Psa. 73:28 others will pass away but it is good to trust in God

Strength- source of power; reliance on.

         Isa. 40:31 the Lord renews our strength

         Isa. 41:10 He helps and strengthens us

Buckler- small round shield.

          Psa. 91:4 a good place to be

          Ex. 14:14 He will fight for us

Horn- a symbol of glory and power.

           Job 42:2 God is all powerful

           Lk. 1:37 nothing is impossible with God

High tower- a place of security of defense.

          Prov. 3:24 security

          Heb. 13:6 defense

 We are in a spiritual warfare but in Christ we have a refuge.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

 
Serving God (Mark 12:28-30)

Love- a warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion; unselfish concern that freely accepts another.

Heart: seat of our affections- feelings, emotions, tender attachments.

   Our love to God is first and foremost.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Soul: spiritual part- a man’s moral nature; spiritual principal embodied in human beings.

   Man’s nature is to serve something or Somebody.

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Mind: intelligence- the ability to understand facts and to reason about them; mental acuteness.

Develop your mind in accordance with His will, always keeping God in command.

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Strength: physical- capacity for endurance or exertion.

Take care of your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

 

How Do YOU Behave in Church?

Reverence- honor or respect; profound adoring, awed respect

Worship- to honor or reverence as a divine Being

Respect- high or special regard: esteem or honor

We respect or honor God’s house as a place to worship. We show reverence to the things in God’s house.

Ways we don’t respect God’s house:

Writing in the song books              
Cutting up during a service
Carving initials on the pews         
Putting chewing gum under the seats
Leaving trash in our pews
Running in church
Putting our feet on the seat in front of us    
The way we dress for church

Why do we raise our hands? It’s one way of testifying or glorifying God. Sometimes we do it in earnestness while praying.

Effectual-
the decisive accomplishment of a result or fulfillment of an intention. Able to produce a desired effect.


Fervent-
marked by great warmth of feeling, ardent, glowing, very hot, impassioned.
